The Township Supervisor is an elected official that services as Chairperson for the Board of Trustees. The supervisor is responsible for the day to day oversight of general Township operations. Other duties held by the supervisor include, but are not limited, to:

– Manages all Township departments (except Clerk’s and Treasurer’s offices)
– Prepares and administers the Township budget
– Manages Planning and Zoning

According to Michigan law, the supervisor, if present, shall be the moderator of annual or special township meeting of the electors, and if he or she is not present, the meeting, under the direction of the township clerk, shall elect by voice vote, a moderator of the meeting. However, the Township clerk has the same powers and duties as the moderator until a moderator is chosen.

The supervisor of a Township may place a person under oath on any of his or her statements made to the supervisor in his or her official capacity as Supervisor.

The supervisor is the Township’s agent for transacting all legal business.

Planning commission members are appointed by the Supervisor, but appointments require township board approval.
